Sustainability policy

We believe the world needs inspiring design.

Beautiful things around us bring comfort, courage, and well-being. At the same time, we understand the importance of treating our planet with sustainability in focus.

That’s why the world needs dedicated and creative people who design sustainable and well-thought-out products from all perspectives. The throwaway culture belongs in the past. It’s time we start valuing what we buy: products of high quality, with beautiful design, perfect functionality, and fair wages for those who create them.

Designer and Mission

When you shop with us, you buy from a designer, artist, and photographer who works full-time with their passion: Inga Svensson, who runs Wordpicture. Our mission is to bring beautiful things into your life, style and home in the most sustainable way possible. We are not perfect, but we always strive to find sustainable solutions and remain transparent about our processes. You can read about how we work with sustainability here. If you have any suggestions, contact us at inga@wordpicture.se. Together, we can make this even more sustainable.

Supporting Sustainable Consumption

We believe in the value of long-lasting and sustainable products. We strive to create items that will be a part of your life for many years and encourage thoughtful purchases rather than impulse buys.

Quality Over Quantity–Made to Order Production

We do not keep large inventories. Instead, we create most of our products when you order them. This ensures that we avoid excess stock, reducing waste and unnecessary overproduction. Additionally, we have a No Waste Store, where you can buy items with minor cosmetic flaws—an opportunity to pay less while reducing waste.

Sustainable Pricing and purchasing

Our pricing is sustainable both for the planet and our business. It allows us to develop our company responsibly, support local businesses in the production process, choose sustainable materials, and earn a fair income. When you shop with us, we want it to be a conscious decision. Our art and craftsmanship are meant to last and be produced in the most sustainable way possible.

No Sales

If you’re looking for discounts, this is not the place. We do not participate in sales, Black Friday, Cyber Monday, or similar promotions. Our prices are set to sustain a responsible business. We don’t want you to make a rushed purchase just because something is cheap. Instead, we want you to buy our items because they are the right price for you, allowing us to grow sustainably. We also offer our No Waste Store, where you can find items with small imperfections at a lower price while helping to reduce waste.

Customer friendly pricing

We don’t use “5.99” pricing tactics. While such pricing psychology might encourage purchases, we choose not to exploit it. If you like our creations, you will buy them even if the price is 6 Euros. We want to avoid encouraging impulsive shopping.

Sustainable packaging

We carefully pack all items using recycled materials whenever possible. If you would like gift wrapping, please leave a comment at checkout or contact us directly—we’ll be happy to provide beautiful gift packaging.

Green shipping

Shipping is free. We ship almost everything with DHL using their green shipping option, which promotes the development of sustainable shipping methods. This option costs us more, as we pay extra for a more environmentally friendly way to ship. Additionally, DHL is a reliable shipping provider for both us and our customers.

Sustainable Metal Workshop

We source copper, brass, bronze, and 925 silver for jewelry-making from a local Swedish family business, supporting local trade. For metal objects other than jewelry, we use recycled materials. Jewelry made from 830 silver and pewter is always crafted from reused materials.

The tools we use in our metal workshop—such as hammers, jewelry tools, and anvils—are second-hand. We also strive to use consumables for as long as possible and opt for sustainable choices when purchasing new materials.

Sustainable Prints

All our fine art prints are produced in a professional local photo lab in Sweden. Through this, we support a local business we have worked with professionally since 2014. All prints are made on long-lasting, high-quality fine art paper, ensuring they last for generations. The paper is produced in Germany. We also offer A5 fine art prints for those who love art but prefer a more affordable size. The paper quality remains the same—high-quality, long-lasting fine art paper.

One Wool Scarf is All You Need

Our wool scarves come from a Danish company that prioritizes sustainability in the fashion industry. While they are not perfect, they are committed to sustainable practices. Their offices are in Denmark, creating jobs in the Nordic region. Ethical production takes place in India, ensuring both high-quality products and fair treatment of workers.

The fabric consists of 90% wool and 10% silk. This blend is more expensive but, in our opinion, more sustainable as it is suitable for both warm and cold weather, thanks to wool’s ideal properties for all climates. Wool is also considered a more sustainable material, requiring less water and energy compared to many other materials. It is biodegradable and does not contribute to microplastic pollution.

We would love to establish a production chain closer to Sweden to create local jobs and reduce transportation distances. However, we have yet to find a more sustainable option that allows for on-demand printing on wool fabrics in Sweden.

Bamboo Silk Scarves

Our bamboo-silk scarves are made of 72% bamboo and 28% silk. They are printed and sewn by a local Swedish company using Oeko-Tex certified dyes, a global certification standard ensuring textiles are safe for both human health and the environment. By purchasing these scarves, you support a Swedish business. No water is used in the production process, and only minimal electricity and raw materials are required. The fabric, a natural fiber, is produced in Pakistan. Bamboo is considered a more sustainable material due to its eco-friendly cultivation process.

Colorful Table Sheets

Our tablecloths are made of either 90% organic cotton and 10% linen or 90% cotton and 10% linen. The fabrics were selected for both sustainability and quality. They are printed and sewn by a local Swedish company using Oeko-Tex certified dyes. By purchasing these tablecloths, you support a Swedish business. No water is used in production, and minimal electricity and raw materials are required. The fabric is produced in Uzbekistan, and the tablecloths are sewn in Sweden by Inga Svensson on her vintage Singer sewing machine.

Original Artworks and Upcycled Art

Our original artwork is painted on reclaimed tiles. Our upcycled art—such as vases, sun catchers, and keychains—is made entirely from repurposed materials. Other items may include new materials, such as paint and consumables. For an item to be classified as “upcycled art” in our store, at least 80% of the materials must be reused.

Inga’s Second Hand

All second-hand items are personally selected by Inga Svensson from flea markets, thrift stores, and individuals looking to part with their belongings. Inga takes care of these items—washing, cleaning, or repairing them as needed. What you pay for is the time Inga invests in restoring, photographing, listing, and managing these items. If you are looking for cheaper options, we recommend exploring the second-hand market yourself.

No Waste Store

Our No Waste Store offers items with minor imperfections or test prints that may not be 100% perfect. This is an opportunity to find products you love at a lower price while reducing waste.

Transparency

We believe in full transparency with our customers regarding our sustainability efforts. We continuously work to improve our processes and seek innovative, more sustainable solutions. We also welcome feedback and suggestions from our customers to help us grow responsibly.

Continuous Improvement

Sustainability is a journey, and we are committed to continuously improving our practices. We actively seek out ways to reduce our environmental impact, support local communities and create products that contribute to a more sustainable and ethical world.
