When you purchase from us, you’re buying from a designer, artist, and photographer who works full-time with her passion. Inga Svenssons, and Wordpictures, mission is to bring beautiful things into your life, your style, and your home in the most sustainable way possible. We are not perfect, but we always try to find sustainable solutions and be transparent about our processes. Here you can read about our efforts. If you have any suggestions, please contact us at inga@wordpicture.se. Together, we can make this even more sustainable.
Supporting Sustainable Consumption
We believe in the value of long-lasting products. We strive to create items that will remain part of your life for many years to come, and we encourage our customers to make thoughtful purchases rather than impulse buys. This aligns with our belief in quality over quantity.
Quality Over Quantity–Made to Order Production
We do not keep large inventories of products. Instead, almost all our products we create only when they are ordered. This ensures there is no excess stock, which in turn reduces waste and unnecessary overproduction. Also, we keep an No Waste Store where you can by items we have created that have small imperfections or test prints we may not be 100% satisfied with. This is a chance for you to find items you love for a better price. This reduces waste.
Sustainable Pricing and purchasing
Our pricing is sustainable for both the planet and our business. It allows us to develop our company in a sustainable way, support local businesses in the manufacturing process, make sustainable choices with materials and earn a salary to cover bills. When you buy from us, we want you to genuinely desire the item we’ve created. It shouldn’t be an impulsive purchase. We want our art to be long-lasting and produced as sustainably as possible.
No Sales
If you’re looking for sales, you are in the wrong place. We do not have sales, Black Friday deals, Cyber Monday or anything of that sort. Our prices are set so that we can maintain a sustainable business. We don’t want you to make a quick purchase because something is cheap. We want you to buy our items because they are the right price for you, allowing us to grow our business in a sustainable way. Also, in our No Waste Store you can by items we have created that have small imperfections or test prints we may not be 100% satisfied with. This is a chance for you to find items you love for a better price.
Customer friendly pricing
We don’t use “5.99” pricing. We know that this pricing psychology can lead you to buy if something costs 399 SEK instead of 400 SEK. We don’t want to use this method to push you into a purchase. If you really like our items and want to buy them, you will do so even if the price is 400 SEK. We want to avoid promoting impulsive, thoughtless purchases.
Sustainable packaging
We carefully pack all items using reused materials whenever possible. If you’d like gift packaging, please leave a note at checkout or contact us directly—we’re happy to accommodate your request.
Sustainable Forge
We source the copper, brass, bronze, and 925 silver, specifically for jewelry making, from a Swedish lokal family company. By doing so, you support a local business. For metal items other than jewelry, I use recycled materials. The 830 silver for jewelry is always reused.
The tools we use to create jewelry and other metal items in our forge are second-hand, such as hammers, jeweler’s tools and anvil. We also try to use consumables as long as possible.
Sustainable Prints
All of our fine art prints are produced in a professional local photo lab. By doing this, both you and we are supporting a local business—a company we have professionally worked with since 2014. All fine art prints are printed on long-lasting, high-quality fine art paper, ensuring they will last for generations. The paper manufacturing is in Germany. We offer A5 fine art prints for those who would love a print but can’t afford the larger sizes. The paper quality is the same high-quality, long-lasting fine art paper.
One Wool Scarf is All You Need
The wool scarves come from a company in Denmark that prioritizes sustainability as much as possible within the fashion industry. While they are not perfect, they are fully committed to sustainable practices. The company’s office is based in Denmark, creating jobs in the Nordics. Their ethical production takes place in India, ensuring both high-quality products and care for the people involved. Their operations are guided by the highest ethical standards.
The fabric of the wool scarves is made of 90% wool and 10% silk. This material is more expensive but, in my opinion, far more sustainable because it can be used in both warm and cold weather, thanks to its ideal properties for all climates. Wool is talked about as a more sustainable material. Wool production uses less water and energy compared to many other materials. Additionally, it is biodegradable and does not contribute to microplastic pollution.
We would love to establish a production chain closer to Sweden to create jobs locally and reduce transportation distances, but we have not yet found a more sustainable option that can print on demand on wool fabrics.
Bamboo Silk Scarves
The bamboo silk scarves (72% bamboo & 28% silk) are printed and sewn by a Swedish company. By purchasing this scarf, you support a Swedish business. No water is used in the production of the scarf in Sweden and only a minimal amount of electricity and raw materials are used. The fabric, a natural fiber, is produced in Pakistan. Bamboo is talked about as a more sustainable material because of a more sustainable growing process.
Colorful Table Sheets
The table sheets are printed by a Swedish company. By purchasing these sheets, you support a Swedish business. By purchasing this scarf, you support a Swedish business. No water is used in the production of the scarf in Sweden and only a minimal amount of electricity and raw materials are used. The fabric, a natural fiber, is produced in Uzbekistan. The table sheets are sewn in Sweden by Inga Svensson on her vintage Singer sewing machine.
Original Artworks and Upcycled Art
Our original artworks are painted on reused tiles. Our upcycled art, such as vases, sun catchers, and keychains consists entirely of reused materials. Other items may contain new materials for production, such as paint and consumables. However, for something to be classified as “upcycled art” in our shop, at least 50% of the materials must be reused, with minimal water and electricity used during the creation. And best of all, these items are one of a kind.
Inga’s Second Hand
All items are handpicked by Inga Svensson from flea markets, second-hand stores and individuals who want to get rid of things. We take care of the items—cleaning, washing or repairing them as needed. What you pay for is the time we spend restoring these items, photographing each one, listing them in our webshop and handling all the practical aspects and administration. The prices reflect this effort. If you’re looking for cheaper items, we recommend you search the second-hand market yourself, as that opportunity is always available.
No Waste Store
We keep a No Waste Store where you can by items we have created that have small imperfections or test prints we may not be 100% satisfied with. This is a chance for you to find items you love for a better price.
Transparency
We believe in full transparency with our customers about our sustainability practices. We are continuously working to improve our processes and seek out innovative, more sustainable solutions. We also encourage feedback and suggestions from our customers to help us evolve.
Continuous Improvement
Sustainability is a journey, and we are committed to continuously improving our practices. We actively seek out ways to reduce our environmental impact, support local communities and create products that contribute to a more sustainable and ethical world.
